Thread
Rolling is a process where threads are formed by moving material instead
of cutting away material. Dies which are much harder than the material
to be rolled have a mirror image of the thread form ground into them.
The part is rotated and pushed into the die. The pressure causes the material
to flow into the die, forming the thread. Cold working of the material
during thread rolling makes the threads stronger and more fatigue resistant
than cut threads. Rolling is a fast process and is the most cost effective
way to produce threads.
